Dental services are capped at $1000 over 2 consecutive calendar years.
The 2 year cap period starts when a child or teenager first gets an eligible dental service.
What services and treatments are included in the Medicare Child Dental Benefits Schedule?
Dental services include:
examinations (visit Children’s Dentistry for information and free resources)
X-rays
cleaning
fissure sealing
fillings
root canals

NOTE: The CDBS doesn't cover orthodontic, cosmetic dental work, or dental services provided in hospital.
There are some restrictions for dental services. These are listed in the Guide to the Child Dental Benefits Schedule on the Department of Health’s website.
STEP BY STEP GUIDE FOR THE MEDICARE CHILD DENTAL BENEFITS SCHEDULE
How do I find out if my child is eligible for the Child Dental Benefits Schedule (CDBS)?
To be eligible for the CDBS, your child must:
be aged 2 to 17 years for at least 1 day of the calendar year
be eligible for Medicare on the day of service
get, or be part of a family getting, certain Australian Government payments
Medicare assesses eligibility at the beginning of each calendar year and it's valid for the entire year. Children who become eligible later in the calendar year will have their eligibility backdated to begin from 1 January of that calendar year.
Before we can provide any services, we need to check your child’s eligibility and balance.
Confirm your child is eligible.
Confirm your balance by one of the following
giving us a call on (02) 8605 1696 with your Medicare Card ready
come to our clinic in person with your Medicare Card
do it yourself: using your Medicare online account through myGov. You can also call the Medicare general enquiries line.
Once we have confirmed that your child is eligible, make an appointment with one of our friendly dentists. You can call us on (02) 8605 1696, email us reception@capstonedental.com.au or Book Online
At the dental appointment, our dentists will provide a dental examination and discuss the child’s treatment, costs and if there are any procedures that we can or cannot perform under the Child Dental Benefits Schedule .
Once you’ve understood the treatment, we will ask you to sign a Medicare consent form agreeing to the services and the cost that will be charged to Medicare.
Once the treatment is completed, we will be able to claim the bulk bill charges online and give you the receipt so you know the remaining balance of the Child Dental Benefits Schedule for your child
Sometimes there may be extra appointments that are required for your child
